Mojang Studios, the Microsoft-owned developer behind the popular sandbox game “Minecraft,” denies NFTs and blockchain in their game.

In a blog post, Mojang explains the conflicts and inequity it would cause if they integrated NFTs and blockchain technology into the game:

Blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be utilized to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, including worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods.

Based on the released blog, Mojang Studios makes it clear that Minecraft wants to allow users an equal gameplay experience, and the implementation would mean that it would completely change the gameplay dynamics and give players who are with monetary means an advantage in-game.

A crypto and blockchain-based news outlet called “web3 is going just great,” uploaded a post on Twitter that reads:

“Terrible news for projects like NFT Worlds, which are just a layer on top of Minecraft. Their token price and NFT floor prices have both crashed more than 70% on the news.”

Based on the comments under the above-mentioned tweet, users seem to have mixed reactions to this announcement. However, at the end of their article, Mojang mentions: “We will also be paying close attention to how blockchain technology evolves over time to ensure that the above principles are withheld and determine whether it will allow for more secure experiences or other practical and inclusive applications in gaming.”
